24 and EYC Pumpkins

Hey there folks,

Sorry for the delay in posting, but as you may have noticed, I made an oops with the youth blog. But it is fixed and up and running again. The layout is a bit different, so I hope you enjoy it. I wanted to add a column, so that you don't have to scroll down so far to find links. Also, the FORMS are in a separate section so they are easier to find.

This past weekend was the Sr High Diocesan Retreat, also knows as 24. Bryant Blakeslee took 8 youth down to Gravatt for 24 hours for fellowship, goofiness, singing, prayer and worship. It was a bit chilly, but they had a great time. Make sure you ask one of them about their weekend (Katie Dubose, Katie Law, Alex Bowers, Sarah Bowers, Anne Williams, Jack Moore, Beaumont Smith, and Ann Marie Powell). Here are some pics:

We also had EYC on Sunday night, so it was a busy weekend! We ate some great chicken tenders and tater tots thanks to the Austin Lewis' family, and then we dove right into carving up some pumpkins. We didn't carve them in the traditional manner, though. They were already made into a simple jack-o-lantern, so 4 teams cut their pumpkins into a jack-o-lantern jigsaw puzzle of at least 10 pieces. Then the teams switched pumpkins and had to put them back together. I think two teams were completely successful, while one team used some artistic license. We end the evening with a discussion that tied Jesus' humanness with the Beatitudes. It was a great discussion and a really cool evening. Thanks to everyone coming to hang out. Here are some pics from the pumpkins:

Don't miss EYC this Sunday! We are going to a Corn Maze at the Clinton Sease Farm in Lexington. We meet at St. John's at 3pm! Bring $7 for the maze and some food money as well (we'll stop off at Wendy's or something). Hope to see you there!

Jack Moore JV Football

I went to Jack Moore's JV football game last night. He plays for Cardinal Newman. Marshall Sheorn plays too. Jack started out as number 66, and then he switched jerseys (why? I have no clue) and was wearing 25. Marshall was number 60. Jack played center most of the night. I was impressed how fast Jack got down field on punt coverage after long snapping. He blocked well and made a couple good open field tackles on coverage. Marshall either caused a fumble or recovered a fumble (I can't remember exactly), and had a couple good tackles. I haven't been to a high school football game in years, and I don't that I have ever been to a JV game. It was a ton of fun.

If you've got something coming up...sports, drama, etc...please let me know. I'd love to come and check it out. Here are some pics from the night:

Cookies and Home Works

Hey there folks,

This weekend was an incredible weekend of service. The youth community should really be proud of themselves and what they accomplished this weekend. On Saturday, a group of us worked on Mrs. Farrow's home. Go to the Home Works blog to read about it and check out the pics:

Sunday evening at EYC, we baked a TON of cookies. I'm not sure exactly how many cookies it was, but it was dozens of dozens! We baked the cookies for a prison ministry called Kairos. Kairos is similar to Happening, Cursio, and/or New Beginnings. The cookies are set out for the inmates to munch on during the whole program. I've heard they go through thousands! Check out some of the pics from the kitchen:

See y'all soon and have a great week!

EYC: ReCreation 10-5

Hey there folks,

EYC was great fun. Thanks to the Sparks family for some great hot dogs (they were incredibly good!), and thanks to everyone for coming to hang out. ReCreation is a play on words, if you didn't notice (recreation --> re-creation). It is a time of play, hang out with friends, and just have a great, goofy time. It is also time for us to let our guard down and be rejuvenated by our community.

We played a bunch of silly games with balloons, plungers, golf balls, t-shirts and canned alphabet pasta. I think the alphabet pasta was tops. We got points for spelling out words, and bonus points for length and Biblical words. Alex Bowers ate a bunch of the meatballs, and he didn't look so well (yuck! cold, canned meatballs...can I say yuck again?!?). Check out the pictures:
