Caption Contest

You know what...I still haven't received one entry in our caption contest! Come on, people! I don't remember where I picked up this picture, but it is a funny one. Post a caption or email me one. The best one wins a t-shirt.

UPDATE: Well, we only had one entry (come on, people, you gotta bring it next time!), but it was a good one:

Locke Williamson
"Dude, Where did I park?"

So Locke wins a t-shirt from Jedidiah or To Write Love on Her Arms:

Youth Sunday and EYC Pool Party

Youth Sunday was a smashing success! Thanks to Rebecca Dillard for helping to line everything up (she made lots of phone calls). Thanks to everyone who was involved and participated: readers, ushers, acolytes, musicians, etc. Thanks to Roddey, Eleanor, Zoe, and Frances for being willing to do the sermon. Great job, everyone!

The EYC Pool Party was a ton of fun. It got a bit windy and the water was a bit nippy, but nothing could stop the fun! We ate lots of food, and had a great time. Anne Marie Powell won the belly flop contest, and Catherine Collins took home top honors in the big splash contest. They both took home itunes gift cards. We got some really neat pictures too. Don't miss Anne Marie and William Axson in mid-flight for the belly flop contest. There's a couple good underwater shots too (yes, I do have a water proof digital camera!).

Thank you for a great year of EYC. Thanks for letting me hang out with y'all. I hope to see you this summer at our gatherings and events. Remember, this is your youth group. You can make it as awesome as you want to. Check out the pictures (3 galleries):

EYC Pool Party @ Lake Carolina!

This Sun, May 18th. Heading out to my neck of the woods (this is my neighborhood pool).

We will leave the church at 5pm and return at 7:30. We will take the bus and caravan.

Parents, feel free to join us, and bring friends! Bring a bathing suit and if you’d like, your favorite party food. If you want to meet us at the pool, here are the directions:

I-77 N, take Exit 22 (Killian Rd), Right off the exit. This turns into Clemson. At the 3rd light, take a Left onto Hardscrabble. You will pass: Sonic (R), Publix (L), and Ridgeview HS (L).
Lake Carolina entrance will be on the Right after passing the Lake on your Right. Go to fountain. Go straight across the fountain (2nd Right off circle) onto Lake Carolina Blvd. Pool is 2 blocks on Right. Let the guard know you are with St. John’s.

See you there!

Dorian

St. John's Youth Update Vol 18

Grace and peace to you, my friends. We had an awesome time on the ropes course at Gravatt! If you weren’t there, you missed out! I think next year, the youth group will go up on Sat and spend the night. Just too much fun lurking about. I would have pictures from the ropes course up on the blog by tomorrow, so check ‘em out. Eileen had killer hops off the top of that telephone pole, and Austin looked like Michael Jordan on his jump.

Okay, next, I seriously need everyone’s help. I seem to have hit a big roadblock, okay, two roadblocks, so I need everyone to pitch in:

1) As of right now, May 18th is our last EYC, and it will be our end of the school year party. It has been brought to my attention that exams for most of you are the week after the 18th, so there may be the potential for conflict with studying. May 25th is Memorial Day weekend (anyone going out of town or doing something special) and the following weekend (June 1) is high school graduations. Is either one of those weekends better for an end of the year party than May 18th? Or should we just knock it out on May 18th?

2) Here’s the other dilemma: we don’t have a pool! My neighborhood does have a pool that we could use, as long as everyone is cool with driving to Lake Carolina (about 20-25 minutes from the church). We could also use the bus for transportation, if needed. So here’s our options:
1) Pool Party at Lake Carolina
2) Slip’N’Slide and water games (still need someone to volunteer their yard and home)
3) Party at the Church: messy and water games on tarps and in the parking lot

We need to finalize this stuff, so please let me know what you think. Every person’s opinion is important!

Graduating SR’s: Please send me your current high school and where you plan on attending college. I’ve gotten a few replies back…I still need a couple more!

Senior High HomeWorks: I still need forms from a few people, and I need deposits as well. Please get them to me ASAP, and remember, I need the Homeworks packet and the St. John’s Permission form. There are still spots available for the Louisiana trip, so if you’d like to go, please let me know.

Have a great week, and we’ll see you this weekend!
Blessings,Dorian
