Chili Cook Off Winner!

Hey there folks,

Sorry for the delay in getting this up. The Chili Cook Off was a huge success! We had over 150 people attend, making it an awesome intergenerational event. The purpose of the Chili Cook Off is to raise funds and awareness for our youth summer missions, and we raised just over $900 towards our trips. Thanks to everyone who volunteered their time and energy to make this event possible. Thanks to everyone who came and participated. Thank you to St. John's for being so supportive of your youth community.

Jammin' Tarheel Chili
(12 servings)

2 1/2 pounds ground sirloin or chuck
3 Tablespoons olive oil
2 large sweet onions, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 (29 oz) can tomato sauce
1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
1 1/2 cups dark beer
2 (15 oz) cans black beans, drained
2 (15 oz) cans dark red kidney beans, drained
1 Tablespoon ground cumin
1/4 cup chili powder
2 teaspoons ground coriander
1 heaping teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 dashes Worcestershire sauce

Brown the meat in a large skillet. In a large pot over medium heat, cook the onions and garlic in olive oil until onion is translucent. Stir in beef and the remaining ingredients. Simmer over medium-low heat 3 hours until flavors are well blended.

Serve topped with cheese, sour cream and the juice from a wedge of lime (our secret touch)!!
